I’m Patrine, an African seed that was transplanted in Jamaican soil. Here on these grounds I have adapted a culture whose beauty standards are predominantly Eurocentric and for most of my life I tried so hard to meet them.
In later years of my life I struggled with maintaining an image that mirrors the popular beauty standard knowing that they contradicted what I look like.
Realizing this, I had a revelation to get rid of my biggest crutch that tied me to this… the relaxer. So, I stopped relaxing and begun to grow my natural hair out. Now I am my own beauty standard.
I have been ridiculed and made victim of negative comments because of my hair, but have not been shaken by any of it. I have embraced and loved every kink and curl in my hair and I am very bold about it and you should be too!
