Karen’s Body Beautiful is a natural, black owned hair/skin care brand that creates products for natural hair and skin. The entire brand boasts to consist products that were carefully designed to add, maintain and restore moisture to dry natural hair. Like most natural hair brands, there are no silicones, parabens, mineral oils, phthalates or sulfates used in any of the products. The entire brand prides itself on using great natural ingredients to nourish and care natural hair. It has a total of 12 amazing fragrances that you can choose from. I have been using some of their products for over a year and I will be sharing my findings on the products I’ve used and have been using. This review was not sponsored at all. Now with that said, there are some products that I absolutely love and others that my hair totally disagrees with! I’ll discuss the products in order of pre-poo to styling.
The Secret Weapon Restorative Hair Treatment
This product is said to be a weekly treatment for dry, brittle and damaged hair and it retails on their website for $30US. I think it is quite expensive for a hair product. However, it is packed with great ingredients like: Aloe Vera Oil, Pygeum & Saw Palmetto Extracts and Stevia, Silica, Rosemary and Carrot Seed Essential Oils. It has a butter like consistency and melts easily in the palms of your hands. It smells like a combination of play dough and dried herbs. It has no water or water based ingredients which makes it a perfect pre-poo product. They recommend that it stays in your hair under a plastic hair cap for at least 20 minutes but could remain in the hair overnight. For the best results I recommend that you leave it overnight! I mean after spending $30, you want to get the most use out of this product.
Ultimate Conditioning Shampoo
This Shampoo retails for $10US. It is supposed to gently cleanse and moisturize your tresses without stripping it; designed specifically for dry, thirsty hair. I have a really thick 4C textured hair and I have not yet used a shampoo that really moisturizes my hair and this one is no different. It performs like your typical shampoo; it does lather and does a great job at clarifying the hair without stripping it. However, if you have a looser texture than me or you’re not too picky about shampoos then you might love this. However, I recently noticed that they have lather free alternative, the “Delicate ‘Do No Poo Lather Free Hair Wash” which I need to try myself. I suspect that I will like this one a lot more.
Complete Hair Conditioner
This conditioner retails for $12US. The product was designed to provide protection and intense moisture to thirsty, brittle hair. Works best on dry, color or chemically treated hair. However, like the shampoo is was certainly not as moisturizing on my hair as it stated it would be and as a result I rarely use this conditioner on its own. I usually only use to enhance my DIY deep conditioning treatments.
Luscious Locks Hair Mask
This hair mask is a deep conditioning treatment that can be used as often as your hair needs it. The mask retails for $16US. They claim that after using it your hair will become as soft like butta! I can certainly attest to that! It is one of, if not my absolute favorite product from the line. I usually use it like a regular conditioner because I find it to be quite moisturizing. It works even better when heated or whenever applied on hair that has been washed with warm water because the cuticles would be open, causing the product to penetrate more, faster and much easier The only two issues I have with this product, is that I wish the consistency was thicker and that there were larger sizes available because I use a lot of this product in one wash routine.
Sweet Ambrosia Leave-In Conditioner
It was said that this leave-in conditioner will moisturize, detangle and define your tresses and was formulated for dry and super thick hair. It retails for $12US. It is a lightweight leave-in with great ingredients but if I want to have very moisturized hair that lasts, I definitely cannot use this product on its own. For my thick hair it needs to be accompanied by something thicker in consistency. So that my hair may be kept moisturized for at least a week. The product does have some slip but it’s not enough to detangle my thick 4C hair. I usually use this for my “L” (Leave-in/Liquid) in the L.O.C moisture method.
Heavenly Jojoba Oil
After which I’d follow up with the Heavenly Jojoba Hair & Body Oil which retails for $10US and represents the “O” in my L.O.C moisture method. It is said to stimulate hair growth and strengthen your hair shaft. The Heavenly Jojoba Hair Oil “locks in moisture and replenishes your scalp’s essential oils.” It is a light weight oil that does not sit on top of your hair shaft or blocks your follicles. It help your hair to retain moisture and is quite penetrable. I have mine in pomegranate fragrance and it smells super goodx! Plus it is amazing when used on the skin!
Super Duper hydrating Cream
This is used in my final 3 part moisture routine; it represents the “C.” I really love the Super Duper Hydrating Cream because it really is super-duper hydrating! It works as amazing on my hair. So if you have thick hair you will like it too. This hydrating cream retails for $12US and is designed to give a soft hold for the perfect twists and braids and will even provide “moisture and delivers the most awesome twist or braid-out!” I have never used it for braid out twist out but based on the moisture it provides your hair, I can definitely see it delivering on its promises.
Sleek Strands Edge Control
Slick strands edge control retails for $14US. It sleeks your hair down without leaving it really greasy and untidy. I really liking it for certain styles but I will say that it is not lasting on my actual edges. There is also a hair gel that I have not tried, the “hold It hair Gel” with Argan Oil. This gel is said to have flexible hold. I love a flexi-hold so, I will definitely be trying this one and think you should too.
Karen’s Body Beautiful is a clean and honest brand and company. Clean and honest meaning, they use nothing but the best ingredients in their products in an effort to provide black hair with the best health care possible. With this said I was very happy and excited to use their products and I really did enjoy sampling them. However, not all the products worked very well on my hair texture but some of them definitely did. So without further ado my top picks from all I have tried would definitely be the Luscious Locks Hair Mask, The Super Duper Hair Cream and the Secret Weapon Restorative Treatment.
